A/Prof Mark Bloch

Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis. It occurs when excess uric acid in the blood leads to deposits of uric acid crystals in one or more joints. These deposits cause inflammation in your joints. The underlying cause of gout is excess uric acid in the blood – a metabolic disorder called hyperuricemia.

Investigational treatment

The study will evaluate whether a 12-month course of an investigational drug, called tigulixostat, can reduce uric acid levels for people with gout and high uric acid levels.
